In 2003 my hubby and I moved back to northern Wisconsin with our five children to pursue our lifetime dream of building an Inn. We built Second Wind on the back 40 acres of my grandpa‘s cow pasture. Our grandchildren who visit often are the sixth generation to roam these country acres.
Shortly after the turn-of-the-century, my greatgrandparents homesteaded this land we live on, in what is called the Highland community. On the west side of the section once stood the two room Highland School that my father and his siblings attended. As a girl, throughout the years, I often entered it doors for community gatherings and 4-H meetings.
This area southwest of Ashland is still often called the Highland community though the old Highland school met its demise many years ago. We still are a pretty tight knit community, and several of my neighbors have looked forward to meeting “the new kid on the block” in the Highland community.
For the past 15 years since my hubby bought me my sweet mama donkey named Espresso, there has been a new kid on the block, 12 of the last 15 years.

Pretty much over the years, it’s been a guess as to when this little babe would be born each summer. This summer I was way off in my guess work. My calculations would have had this little ball of fluff due at the beginning of June.
Needless to say it was a long summer of waiting… He was just born August 3rd. My neighbors will see from my Facebook page post that he has arrived. Already a few of them have stopped over to see the new guy. My Facebook followers of Second Wind have been submitting their name ideas for him.
I thought it would be fun to share of his coming here in my blog.
In a future blog, I will update you of his name or, you can always check in on some recent pictures on our Facebook page
